BATTALION

Battalion was born at the Heavy Sound Festival in Poperinge, Belgium, in 1985, when a group of young metalheads decided to form a band. Guitarists Guy Commeene and Filip Vandamme started writing the first songs, soon joined by Geert Jacques, Bart Lamsens and Piet Overstijns. After some early line-up changes, Geert 'Wisten' Wieczorek took over vocals and Stefaan 'DC' Deceunink joined on drums. Battalion built a reputation on the Belgian live circuit, sharing stages with Killer, Angel Dust, Xes, Tankard and Sodom. Their first demo, Evil Legions, was recorded in Aalst before further line-up changes eventually brought the short-lived band to an end in 1987. Several members would continue their musical journey in Yosh, formed from the remains of Battalion.
